Westbank First Nation (WFN) holds a number of forest tenures on Crown land within its traditional territory.

WFN has the right to harvest timber from these tenures and must adhere to the same forest management obligations that all other license holders in BC adhere to. These obligations include the protection of water, soils, wildlife, visuals, and biodiversity. As part of our responsibility for long term sustainable management we must ensure that all areas harvested are properly reforested.

WFN has realized a number of benefits from management of forest resources in our traditional area including:

     • long term community economic development resulting in increased self-reliance,
     • building capacity for local employment, and
     • participation in resource management.
